We have been discussing race, ethnicity, and nationality in class during the past two days. Today we looked at a PBS web site (see below) that had us sorting pictures of people by what category of race we thought they belonged to. We discovered that it is difficult to tell a person’s race by simply looking at them. We also decided that judging a person by their race really is an ineffective method. We decided that we need to get to know people by asking questions. Questions like: What countries is your family from? Or what ethnicity are you?
